The Liverpool Tate gallery featured the exhibition of Tracey Emin and William Blake showing together. Both of these artists held the connection of romantic themes appearing throughout their work. Emin's 'My Bed' was a response to a relationship breakdown, representing how she coped through the 4 days that she didn't leave that bed. The polaroids that are featured represent pleasure through the time that they were taken and the possibility of being able to return there.

It could be argued that the creation of 'My Bed' was actually something of a positive drawn from the lifestyle that Emin was living in the nineties. The way in which the Tate Liverpool decorated the walls of the exhibition in deep greens and sombre reds also works, the use of the red surrounding 'My Bed' falls into the almost death like scene that Emin creates. Even though there's a gap of 200 years between the two artists, there are strong parallels between them. Both of the artists feature the themes of birth, sex and death dreams.

They share the fact that they both stoof against the constrictions of the society of their time, having a liberal approach towards sexual freedom through the works that are shown.
