Francis Bacon (October 1909-April 1992) was best known for his figurative work as a painter, his work typically stylized by it' s bold, grotesque, emotionally charged and raw imagery, as well as tending to painting in triptychs.
Bacon quickly cemented himself within the art world as a bleak chronicler of the human condition after his breakthrough with the triptych of paintings 'Three studies for figures at the base of a Crucifixion'.
The abstracted subjects within Bacon's work are typically isolated within an expanse of isolated geometrical spaces, usually set against flat, non descript backgrounds.
As an artist, I was particularly drawn to the fact that Bacon tended to exhibit work as a triptych, the idea that you could use multiple viewpoints to depict the same subject and have it viewed as a singular piece.
