Peter Howson (born 27th March 1958-) is a Scottish painter that was the British official war artist in the 1993 Bosnian Civil War conflict.
It was during this period that Howson created some of his most famous and controversial works of art, which detailed the atrocities that occurred within the conflict. One particular piece that garnered the most shock was the painting 'Croation and Muslim', depicting a rape created from the account that was told bu the victim.
In terms of his style, his work is typically exemplified by large, muscular figures that are twisted in a grotesque manner, usually focusing on the struggling under class. This is compounded by the scale with which he usually paints, canvases that dwarf and dominate with their large scale.
