The Customs House in South Shields recently showed Virginia Bodman's latest exhibition 'Studio Stories.'
A collection of bright, vibrant paintings that immediately capture the attention of the viewer as you enter the exhibition space, the paintings include elements of print, 3D object making as well as drawing, the paintings possess a physicality and history of mark making that evident as the viewer visually explores the work.
Taking up two floors, the pieces of work seem to thrive in the space that each of the artworks have been given, never appearing to be crowded or impinging on one another, but never seeming isolated within the gallery. On the upper floor, the Upper Fusion Gallery, the viewer can catch a glimpse of Bodman's recent works in the form of circular drawings that created on circular pieces of canvas, the drawings based on objects that Bodman made from discarded paintings and other studio debris.
