I spent this week generating and trying to come up with possible ideas for my project, I knew that I wanted to start off by avoiding falling into the trap of repeating the work that I made in the previous year. With this in mind, I began by focusing on using media that I'd previously avoided, forgoing paint and wholly using charcoal in favour of using pencil, pen and other drawing materials. In terms of ideas, I've been exploring the possibility of delving into creating more illustrative work or work that centered around folklore/fairytales of different cultures.
I dove straight into creating work, with the mindset that it'd be more beneficial to explore my ideas more visually rather than try to use mindmaps and writing to explore them. I actually found that working at the scale of A4 proved to be rather difficult, after becoming accustomed to working on a much larger scale, meaning that a lot of the work ended up looking as if it should continue onto another piece of paper.
In terms of artists that I've been looking at, I started with the illustrator Chris Riddell and the way that a lot of his work is purely line work, using minute lines to convey shadow and depth.
