This group crit featured the works of Krysta Hudspith and Sophie Anne Mitcheson, looked over by our lecturers James Hutchinson and Ralph Broeg. Krysta exhibited work which was composed of a variety of paintings that focused upon capturing parts of the human body. The works themselves were detailed, figurative paintings that showed the internal and external parts of the human body. The figures that were within the paintings seemed to show the human body as an ideal, being very lithe and almost unnatural in their proportions. It was also pointed out by our lecturer Ralph, that the proportions of the body were off and Krysta explained that the piece wasn't finished, going on to further explain that the reason the painting had a heart coming out of the chest, was to display that beauty isn't skin and that it's personality and what's inside that counts.
When it was time for Sophie Anne to display and exhibit her work, she displayed a variety of resin work, from small dome shaped pieces to larger rectangular pieces. Inside of each resin piece there were a variety of material such shells, flowers, ink , flowers and sand. To me, it seemed as if the work was physical representations of photographs, capturing a single moment of time. It was suggested by Rolph that the pieces that hadn't set entirely correctly were intriguing because those pieces created unusual forms, holding together the chemical reaction of the process. James made the comment that the pieces of work reminded him of biological slides or studies. The group suggested that Sophie Anne could evolve her work by increasing the size of the pieces.
