It was a pretty tough week in terms of my paintings, I found myself getting pretty stuck and frustrated with them. With the painting that had a dark background, I found myself going around in circles in terms of development, I found myself struggling to blend the paint in the way that I wanted that didn't make the it feel as if the new layers of paint were just tacked on. It could be because of the dry brush, I could try thinning out the paint a little and adopting more of a wet technique.
To try and break out of the rut, I've been returning to my drawing practice hoping that it'd feed my paintings. I tried out a new material in using indian ink with a stick in order to create very scratchy, thin lines within my work as well as to take away an element of control, allowing the piece of work to stand on it's own.
I feel that I've had more success with the painting on two surfaces, in the term of how I've been able to blend and work with the paint, using lots of small brush strokes instead of trying to cover the entire thing at once.
