I guess with the first piece of work, I was trying to be a lot looser in the way that I approached my work. Instead of having the mindset of having to produce what I considered to be "good" pieces of work, something that was meaning I was spending too long on a painting sometimes, I adopted the mindset of just making work and allowing the work to speak for itself. I was trying to incorporate more of a collage method with the first piece, to increase the feeling of depth and texture, instead of just flat cardboard like previously. The paint was more used a drawing material rather than a painterly one, the brushstrokes remaining rough and rushed, standing against the white background.
As for the second piece, I was continuing this from previous weeks in an effort to make more finished pieces of work rather than just moving from piece to piece. This current piece was first inspired by the later works of Picasso and the way that he approached his work, the rawness and directness with which he applied his paint and the way that the form of his subjects were broken down.
